Are words powerful?
Well, in a word,
yes.
Especially powerful are the words of women. Think of all the people you speak to-husbands, children, friends, neighbors, relatives, co-workers, etc. There are many opportunities to influence for the positive. Or the negative.
In the ladies' Tuesday morning Bible study this week we started our discussion of what the Bible has to say about words and the tongue.
God has many things to tell us about the tongue.
James 3:3-5
"Now if we put the bits into the horses' mouths so that they may obey us, we direct their entire body as well.
Behold, the ships also, though they are so great and are driven by strong winds, are still directed by a very small rudder, wherever the inclination of the pilot desires.
So als the tongue is a small part of the body, and yet it boasts of great things. Behold, how great a forest is set aflame by such a small fire!"

One question asked by the author was: Consider sharing or journal a story from your own life in which the words of a woman changed the course of your life for a day or for a lifetime.
As I shared on Tuesday, I could think of some things that a woman has said to me, but the Holy Spirit kept reminding me of my words to my children in the past that while at the time I may felt had been in jest, had the power to hurt. And I was reminded that even though we can apologize, our words still linger.
This study is one I'd encourage you to study along and post your comments. The study begins with the author's prayer:
Dear Father, I know there is great power in the words I speak. I have seen looks of hurt and disappointment when I've spoken a careless word, and I have seen looks of hope and excitement when I have spoken an encouraging word. As I study what Your Word has to say about my words, I pray You will open my eyes to Your power, my heart to Your conviction, my mind to Your truth, and my ways to Your will. In Jesus' name, amen.
